Ceren Bingol Named Interim Architect-in-Residence at Cranbrook Academy of Art

Dan Kinkead Named Visiting Architect-in-Residence
Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Dec. 5, 2016 – Christopher Scoates, the Maxine and Stuart Frankel Director of Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum, and the Cranbrook Academy of Art Board of Governors, announced today that Ceren Bingol has been named the interim Architect-in-Residence and Head of the Architecture Department at Cranbrook Academy of Art. Bingol will begin her tenure on January 6, 2017, and her position will continue through the 2016-2017 academic year. She will then stay on for the entire 2017-18 academic year.

While here, Bingol will be collaborating with Dan Kinkead, AIA, Principal, at SmithGroupJJR, during the spring 2017 semester.

Heather McGill Announces Departure from Cranbrook Academy of Art

— Cranbrook Academy of Art announced today that Heather McGill, Artist-in-Residence and Head of the Sculpture Department, will leave the Academy at the end of the 2016- 2017 academic year. McGill notified the Academy of her decision last week.

Alpesh Patel and Kristi McGuire Named Critical Studies and Humanities Fellows at Cranbrook Academy of Art

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, MICH., June 24, 2016 — Cranbrook Academy of Art is pleased to announce the appointment of two fellows to our Critical Studies and Humanities program for the 2016-2017 academic year.

Our Spring Critical Studies and Humanities Fellow is Kristi McGuire, an artist-educator, writer and editor based in Chicago. Since 2011, she has taught in the Department of Visual and Critical Studies at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Our Fall Critical Studies and Humanities Fellow is Alpesh Kantilal Patel, an Assistant Professor in Contemporary Art and Theory and Director of the MFA program in the Visual Arts at Florida International University (FIU) in Miami.

Cranbrook Academy of Art Maintains Designation as a Top Producer of Fulbright Students

The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs recently announced the U.S. colleges and universities that produced the most 2015-2016 Fulbright U.S. Students, and once again, Cranbrook Academy of Art was ranked as a top producer. With another grant received last year, Academy students have now received a total of 26 grants over the past 12 years, making the Academy, per capita, the highest producer of student Fulbright scholars in the United States.

Cranbrook Academy Art Presents Alumni Achievement Award to Vivian Beer

Bloomfield Hills, Mich., February 10, 2016 – Cranbrook Academy of Art has named Vivian Beer (Metalsmithing ‘04) the 2016 recipient of the Alumni Achievement Award. This is the fifth time the Academy has bestowed the award, which seeks to recognize alumni who have achieved excellence early in their career. Sonya Clark (Fiber ’95) was the first recipient in 2011, Susan York (Ceramics ’95) received the award in 2012, Laura Heyman (Photography ’98) received the award in 2013 and our last recipient was Fabio Fernández (Sculpture ’02) in 2014.

Liz Cohen, Eric Crosley & the Politics of the Self | Lecture and Reading Accompany Artist’s Latest Exhibition
