SUMMARY:Projection Mapping Pop Up: Red Eyes at Cranbrook
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special pop-up projection mapping event on Thursday\, March 9\, 2023\, beginning at 6:30pm at Cranbrook Art Museum’s Peristyle and grounds. \nThe ongoing series by Visiting Artist Motomichi Nakamura is inspired by Shinto\, the native animistic religion of Japan that is based on the idea that everything in the world including humans is part of a single unified creation and all things in nature are inhabited by spirits. \nBy using mobile projection mapping technology\, animated “Red Eyes” images are projected onto ordinary outdoor structures or objects\, and they are given life as mysterious monsters. The artist hopes to bring special attention to what’s always been around us and appreciate things in our everyday life. \n\n\nMotomichi Nakamura\, Japanese born and graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York\, is an award-winning Projection Artist\, Animator\, and educator based in New York with extensive experience creating unique digital outdoor and indoor projection installations\, moving images\, and virtual experiences.\n\nHis work is known for the use of black\, white\, and red and he creates monsters with minimalistic graphic elements inspired by Mythology. He has exhibited globally in numerous museums and galleries including the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York\, Winzavod – Moscow Contemporary Art Center\, MARCO in Monterrey Mexico\, and Olympia Park Munich among others. His animated films have been screened at Sundance Film Festival\, Onedotzero Festival\, and Edinburgh International Film Festival and his recent experimental film “Okami” won in The Leeds International Film Festival. \nThis pop-up is organized in collaboration with Cranbrook Academy of Art’s 4D Design Department and Cranbrook Art Museum.
