DESCRIPTION:Cranbrook Academy of Art is the country’s only program devoted exclusively to graduate studies in art\, architecture\, and design. At its core\, it hinges on the belief that extraordinary things can happen when people are given time and space to explore their work in a supportive and inclusive community. \nStudents can choose to study within one of 11 departments: Architecture\, 2D Design\, 3D Design\, 4D Design\, Ceramics\, Fiber\, Metalsmithing\, Painting\, Photography\, Print Media\, and Sculpture. DESCRIPTION:Due to current recommendations regarding the coronavirus\, we have cancelled OPEN(STUDIOS) for 2020. \n\nJoin us on Sunday\, April 26\, 2020\, from 1-5pm\, for our annual OPEN(STUDIOS) event. Visitors can tour the Academy of Art’s private studio spaces\, meet with emerging artists and designers from the Academy’s 11 departments and purchase student work. This is the only time of the year when the public is invited inside the private Academy studio spaces! \nOPEN(STUDIOS) is a FREE event!\nRegister through Eventbrite (COMING SOON) and also receive complimentary admission to the following Cranbrook attractions: \nCranbrook Art Museum: Tour the 2020 Graduate Degree Exhibition of Cranbrook Academy of Art\, featuring the work of 65 graduating Academy students. Museum educators will also host a Spring Family Day with kid-friendly tours and hands-on art projects from 11am–2pm. \nCranbrook Institute of Science: Discover the wonder of the natural world and develop a better understanding of the ways in which science impacts our lives each day (paid admission required for exploreLab\, Robot Revolution\, and the Acheson Planetarium). \nSaarinen House: This is the opening day of the historic former home of Eliel and Loja Saarinen\, the jewel of Cranbrook’s architectural treasures. \nCranbrook House: Enjoy an open house at the Arts and Crafts-style manor designed by Albert Kahn for the founders of Cranbrook\, George Gough Booth and Ellen Scripps Booth. \n  \nThis is the perfect day to explore Cranbrook! DESCRIPTION:While most graduate programs grow out of their undergraduate model\, Cranbrook Academy of Art offers something entirely different. Ranked as the top studio-based graduate-only program in the United States\, Cranbrook is exclusively devoted to producing graduates that are immediately prepared to enter the world of art\, architecture and design. \nOur unique program offers an intense studio-based experience comprised of 150 graduate students where Artists-in-Residence mentor students in Architecture\, 2D\, 3D\, and 4D Design\, Ceramics\, Fiber\, Metalsmithing\, Painting\, Photography\, Print Media\, and Sculpture to creatively influence contemporary culture. The curriculum is structured around self-directed studio work\, critique\, a rigorous academic program and a robust schedule of visiting artists\, architects\, designers\, and thinkers. \nThe Academy is a community of makers all of whom live and practice alongside each other on our extraordinary historic campus. Our graduates not only leave with an MFA or MArch degree\, but a cohort of thinking partners\, co-conspirators\, collaborators who will be their creative community for a lifetime. \nFind out if the Academy is right for your next step at our Graduate Open House on October 12\, from 10am-4pm. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Sunday\, April 28\, 2019\, from 1-5pm\, for our annual OPEN(STUDIOS) event. Visitors can tour the Academy of Art’s private studio spaces\, meet with emerging artists and designers from the Academy’s 11 departments and purchase student work. This is the only time of the year when the public is invited inside the private Academy studio spaces! \nOPEN(STUDIOS) is a FREE event!\nRegister through Eventbrite and also receive complimentary admission to the following Cranbrook attractions: \nCranbrook Art Museum: Tour the 2019 Graduate Degree Exhibition of Cranbrook Academy of Art\, featuring the work of 65 graduating Academy students. Museum educators will also host a Spring Family Day with kid-friendly tours and hands-on art projects from 11am–2pm. \nCranbrook Institute of Science: Discover the wonder of the natural world and develop a better understanding of the ways in which science impacts our lives each day (paid admission required for exploreLab\, Doom of the Dinosaurs\, and the Acheson Planetarium). \nSaarinen House: This is the opening day of the historic former home of Eliel and Loja Saarinen\, and this year features the temporary exhibition Studio Loja Saarinen: The Art and Architecture of Weaving\, 1928-1942\, which brings together rarely seen handwoven rugs and textiles produced at Cranbrook under the direction of Loja Saarinen. \nCranbrook House: Enjoy an open house at the Arts and Crafts-style masterpiece designed by Albert Kahn for the founders of Cranbrook\, George Gough Booth and Ellen Scripps Booth. \nSonified Cranbrook: Visit the temporary installation by Carla Diana\, Designer-in-Residence and Head of the new 4D Design department at Cranbrook Academy of Art and Skooby Laposky\, a composer\, producer and DJ who crafts sound and music for motion\, narratives\, objects\, and events. Pick up a map at check-in for the various locations and performance times. \nThis is the perfect day to explore Cranbrook! Check in at the main event table located outside of Cranbrook Art Museum or at any of the participating campus venues for information and maps. Visitors can park at any of the venues on campus and shuttles will also be running from the Kingswood and 550 Lone Pine Road parking lots.
