    Bloomfield Hills, Mich., November 5, 2014 — Cranbrook Academy of Art is pleased to announce that it will confer its Distinguished Alumni Award on California-based graphic designer Ed Fella (Design ’87) at his upcoming lecture at the Academy on November 9. The Distinguished Alumni Award is one of the highest honors bestowed by the Academy and recognizes graduates who have demonstrated creativity, innovation, leadership, and vision through their contributions to the practices of architecture, art, and design, as well as to Cranbrook Academy of Art.     BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich., Oct. 22, 2014 – The Cranbrook Educational Community Board of Trustees has named Gerhardt Knodel a Director Emeritus of Cranbook Academy of Art. Knodel will deliver a special lecture at Cranbrook Art Museum on October 26 at 4pm. The award will be presented to Knodel at the lecture. This marks the first time the Board of Trustees has bestowed a Director Emeritus Award. “Gerhardt’s contributions to Cranbrook continue to live on at the Academy every day,” says Chris Scoates, current Director of Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum. “His legacy helped shape this institution into one

    Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Sept. 15, 2014 — In its sixth season, the [FALL] Edition Lecture Series at Cranbrook Academy of Art kicks off today, offering a unique opportunity to discuss a variety of contemporary creative practices. All lectures are structured to explore all forms of innovative inquiry from the vantage point of artists, critics, and scholars.   • Joseph J. Tanke Appointed Fall Critical Studies and Humanities Fellow
  • Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Aug. 25, 2014 – Cranbrook Academy of Art is pleased to announce the appointment of University of Hawaii, Manoa, Associate Professor and Chair of the Graduate Program in Philosophy, Joseph J. Tanke, as the Critical Studies and Humanities Fellow for the fall semester of 2014. Tanke has published and lectured extensively on issues in aesthetics, art theory, continental philosophy, and the history of philosophy. He is the author of Foucault’s Philosophy of Art: A Genealogy of Modernity (Continuum, 2009), and Jacques Rancière: An Introduction—Philosophy, Politics, Aesthetics (Continuum, 2011).     Bloomfield Hills, Mich., July 28, 2014 – The Cranbrook Educational Community Board of Trustees announced today that after a comprehensive one-year search, Christopher Scoates has been named Director of Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum. He begins his tenure August 1. Scoates is a graduate of Cranbrook Academy of Art, having received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography in 1986. Most recently he served as Director of the University Art Museum at California State University Long Beach, a position he has held since 2005. This brings the total number of Academy students who have received grants over the past 11 years to 25 – making the Academy, per capita, the highest producer of student Fulbright scholars in the United States.
