Aya Kawabata Awarded “New Talent Competition” at DMY International Design Festival

June 2nd, 2016

Aya Kawabata (2D ’15) recently received an award in the “New Talent Competition” at the DMY International Design Festival in Berlin. A total of 165 participants submitted current prototypes, close-to-production products, the latest design trends, innovations, experiments and processes. Twenty-five were awarded exhibition spots. In Kawabata’s project, Sun and Night, she pursues the aesthetics of abstraction and creates ambiguity in the form of the object. She is inspired by a timeless aesthetic that examines the void that exists between objects and the human body. This textile embraces harmony through color and the textures of yarns.
