This week, Cranbrook mourns the loss of Gilbert B. Silverman, a Life Governor of the Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum. A steadfast supporter of the arts, Silverman served on the Academy Board for 27 years, from 1980-2007. He also served on boards and committees for the Detroit Institute of Arts and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
Silverman was a Bloomfield Hills-based real estate executive, working as the former president of Holtzman & Silverman and founder and former president and chairman of Village Green Management Company.
Read a story in Crain’s Detroit Business about Silverman’s accomplishments and see his obituary at the Ira Kaufman Chapel website. The Academy sends its deepest condolences to Silverman’s wife Lila, daughters Marsha Brunelle and Wendy Silverman; sons Gilbert (Buzz), Eric and Paul Silverman; and his nine grandchildren.
