Cranbrook Mourns the Loss of Warren Corbitt
Bloomfield Hills, Mich., October 19, 2016 – The Cranbrook Academy of Art community mourns the loss of alumnus Warren Corbitt (2D Design ’99).
Corbitt was a multidisciplinary designer focusing on branding, editorial, and cultural projects, working fluidly between both screen-based and print-based media.
From 1999–2005, he was founder and partner of one9ine, working with a client base spanning cultural, commercial, and non-profits. Studio clients included the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, Museum of Modern Art, Kenneth Cole, ESPN The Magazine, Columbia Records, Nike, Universal Music, and many more. With his strong editorial background, he also worked with magazines including GQ, Condé Nast House & Garden, and Esquire.
He was the founding Art Director at Swoon.com, an editorial web vehicle for Condé Nast that served as the first online presence for Details, Glamour, Mademoiselle, and GQ magazines.
Following, he was the Lead Art Director at CKS Site Specific, forming interactive design strategies for clients including Duracell and Travelocity. Corbitt also co-designed RayGun magazine and served as creative consultant for Bikini magazine.
Corbitt was most recently a principle designer at Primary & Co. and a visiting professor of publication design at Cooper Union School of Art. His work has been recognized by numerous design competitions, including AIGA, Art Directors Club, and Society of Publication Designers, with work published in multiple foreign and domestic design publications.
Corbitt received his BA in Political Theory from Vassar College, and his MFA in 2D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
