Newport To Open New Solo Exhibition at form & concept

Fiber Artist-in-Residence Mark Newport returns to form & concept for a solo show that cuts to the heart his practice in the exhibition Mark Newport: Mending.

“This series explores the idea of repair and scarring,” says Newport. “I was a very accident-prone child. I have some scars.” The artwork in Mendingstands in stark contrast to the artist’s first exhibition at form & concept. In the gallery’s ReFashiongroup show, Newport presented hand-knit superhero suits. “The costumes suggest the body, masculinity, armor,” Newport explains. “This new series is more about vulnerability, so I’m flipping that coin on its head.”

The show opens on Friday, February 24 from 5-7 pm. Newport will speak at our Gallery Talk: Shifting Landscapes & Mark Newport on Saturday, February 25 from 2-3 pm. The exhibition closes May 20, 2017.
