Sonya Clark's "Monumental Cloth, The Flag We Should Know" Exhibited at Fabric Workshop and Museum

Monumental Cloth, The Flag We Should Know, a new project by Sonya Clark (Fiber, ’95) offers an alternative symbol to the ubiquitous Confederate flag. Her monumental scale flag is a representation of a simple white dishcloth, waved by a soldier sent by General Robert E. Lee to General George A. Custer. This moment began the negotiations for surrender at Appomattox on April 9, 1865, marking the beginning of the end of the U.S. Civil War.
