Five Alumni Receive Emerging Artist Fellowships from PLAYGROUND DETROIT
PLAYGROUND DETROIT announced 10 Artist Fellows chosen for their inaugural 20/20 Emerging Artists Fellowship, and five are graduates of Cranbrook Academy of Art.
Congratulations to Caroline Del Giudice (Sculpture ’20), Rachel Pontious (Painting ’17), Lindsay Splichal (Print Media ’19), Antonia Stoyanovich (Photography ’20), and Sun Wang (Painting ’19).
The two-year juried program will award the artists $2,000 each to develop their individual practices, and as a result, new bodies of work will be created and accompanied by programming in any of the following categories: gallery exhibitions, off-site exhibitions, performance installation, or site-specific installation.
An online-exclusive group exhibition of awardee artwork will be presented on Artsty, opening on Saturday, May 16, 2020. A portion of artwork sales will be donated to Gleaners Food Bank.
The finalists were chosen from 163 artist submissions. The selection committee included PLAYGROUND DETROIT co-founders Paulina Petkoski and Samantha B Schefman; visual artist and curator, Scott Vincent Campbell; David Klein Gallery Director Christine Schefman; and collector and philanthropist, Paul Jacobs.
The program is supported by The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation as a Knight Arts Challenge Detroit 2019 winning project.
