Fiber Alumna Sonya Clark Is A 2021 Artist2Artist Fellow

Sonya Clark (Fiber ’95) was recently selected as one of Art Matters Foundations 2021 Artist2Artist fellows. Clark is known for her installation, performance, and other works that utilize textile, hair, text, sound to celebrate culture while interrogating historical imbalances, inequity, and injustice.

2021 is the pilot year for Art Matters Foundation’s new granting program titled Artist2Artist, where grant recipients — artists — act as grant-makers. Art Matters has also expanded its definition of artist by also granting support to people organizing mutual aid, community engagement, and alternative support structures for artists. This granting model is intended to affirm artists’ specialized knowledge of their communities.
