Charles and Ray Eames designed their iconic lounge chair in 1956 using their pioneering bent-plywood method first explored at Cranbrook Academy of Art. With this chair, they set out to create “the warm receptive look of a well-used first baseman’s mitt.” The chair was produced by Herman Miller and they continue to produce authentic Eames Lounge Chairs today in a variety of options.

The Eames Lounge continues to be a ubiquitous furniture design, finding itself at home even outside of midcentury-modern interiors. It’s a piece considered a luxurious comfort and often heirloom, as the Eames intended nearly 70 years ago.

Charles and Ray Eames met at Cranbrook Academy of Art and are described as “The First Couple of Design”.
