Nick Cave’s (Fiber ’89) first career retrospective exhibition, Forothermore, opens at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago opens on May 14, 2022. The exhibition will trace the development of his ‘Soundsuits’ series through themes of family, legacies of slavery, Black entrepreneurship, and celebration.

Among the many works included are several rarely seen early works such as large installations incorporating rusted tools, salvaged metal, and wood elements honoring the Cave family’s history of manual labor through the use of recycled materials. Visitors will also experience brand-new works including a site-specific installation and Cave’s first sculpture cast in bronze.

“Art has always been a savior for me in so many ways” – Nick Cave to Galerie Magazine, 2022.

Forothermore is on view at the MCA Chicago from May 14, 2022 through October 2, 2022. It will also travel to the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

The exhibition’s catalogue was designed with Cave’s partner, Bob Faust.
