Architectural Digest recently included the Cranbrook School dining hall among its fifteen best-designed university dining halls.

The Cranbrook School dining hall is utilized by students across the Cranbrook Educational Community including those from the K-12 Cranbrook Schools and the graduate students from Cranbrook Academy of Art. It was designed with the male students of Cranbrook Schools in mind, whereas the Cranbrook Kingswood dining hall was designed for female students.

Eliel Saarinen designed the Cranbrook campus, but also furniture including the Cranbrook School dining hall chairs. The original wooden chairs are still in use after 95 years and feature a metal crane insert representing the identity of the schools.

The dining hall is also the site of the Academy’s annual Fall Feast celebration where students, Artists-in-Residence, staff, and members of the greater community gather to enjoy a family-style meal together in November.
