Genevieve de Leon to Open Solo Exhibition at Hartford Art School Galleries
Genevieve de Leon (MFA Painting 2018) opens a new solo exhibition later this month at the University of Hartford Art School. De Leon was the 2022-23 Georgette and Richard Koopman Distinguished Chair in the Visual Arts, a residency that brings prominent artists to teach at the Hartford Art School.
To Order the Days / Para Ordenar Los Días features de Leon’s newly completed, large-scale paintings of constellations in the Maya Zodiac, alongside her multimedia collaborations with students at the Hartford Art School; Indigenous artists in the Native Youth Arts Collective; and the University of Connecticut’s Milky Way Laboratory.
The exhibition will run from February 23 through March 25, 2023, with an opening reception on February 23 from 5 pm – 7 pm In conjunction with the exhibition, the Hartford Art School will also host “Cosmic Hearth: Sky Knowledge Across Traditions,” a talk series in their Silpe Gallery on February 24, 27, and 28, from 5 pm – 6 pm.
