Mingdong Sun Opens Solo Exhibition, Impotent Pegasus, at The Sculpture Center

May 1st, 2023

Mingdong Sun, Victim, 2019

Artist and curator Mingdong Sun (MFA Sculpture 2020), currently based in Shanghai, China, opens a new solo exhibition at The Sculpture Center in Cleveland, OH this month. Impotent Pegasus features Sun’s work composed of found objects, found concepts, or found origami, becoming fairytale imaginary creatures – symbols that reflect his thinking about his relationship with society. Through his practice, Sun seeks to analyze the sympathies of human desires to heal childhood trauma on a personal and societal level.

Sun was awarded this solo exhibition following his participation in The Sculpture Center’s exhibition The Shape of Sculpture: Recent Cranbrook Graduates in 2020.

Impotent Pegasus opens on May 12, 2023 and is on view through June 24, 2023. An artist talk, “Queer as Myth Maker: an Artist Talk with Mingdong Sun,” will take place on May 11, 2023 from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, where Sun will share his current thinking on the criticality of queer art.
