Culture Type highlighted Sonya Clark’s (MFA Fiber 1995) mid-career survey We Are Each Other in a list of shows to see this summer outside of New York and Los Angeles featuring Black artists. We Are Each Other brings together Clark’s large-scale community-centered and participatory projects for the first time and debuted at Cranbrook Art Museum in June. The title of the exhibition is inspired by a Gwendolyn Brooks poem about Paul Robeson (1971), which concludes with the following phrasing: “We are each other’s harvest: we are each other’s business: we are each other’s magnitude and bond.”

Sonya Clark: We Are Each Other is on view at Cranbrook Art Museum through September 24, 2023, then will travel to the High Museum of Art (October 27, 2023– February 18, 2024) and the Museum of Arts and Design (March 23, 2024–Sept. 22, 2024).
