Abby Donovan’s (MFA Ceramics 1996) solo exhibition at the Shirley Fiterman Art Center, THE COLORS ARE LIKE WORDS THAT ARE NOT WORDS BUT COLORS, was recently reviewed by John Yau for Hyperallergic. The exhibition is an installation of Donovan’s colored sheet glass and lead solder sculptures with large-scale imagery created by projecting through the sculptures. The projection devices are a collaboration with Tom Hughes.

Donovan’s work delves into the interactions between glass, light, and human perception. A visitor’s experience is both solid and ephemeral, the relation between the object and transmission of light creates opportunities for continually changing discoveries.

THE COLORS ARE LIKE WORDS THAT ARE NOT WORDS BUT COLORS is on view through August 5, 2023.

In addition to her professional practice, Donovan is a Professor in the Department of Art & Design at the University of Delaware.
