Nick Pizaña and Mieyoshi Ragernoir among artists selected to paint murals across Detroit

August 4th, 2023

Recent Academy alums Nick Pizaña (MFA Painting 2022) and Mieyoshi Ragernoir (MFA Painting 2022) are among 12 artists selected to create murals for The City of Detroit City Walls projects’ 15 new locations. These murals will be located at Dexter Ave., Gratiot/7 Mile, and the Joe Louis Greenway. Pizaña and Ragernoir’s mural will be located at Gratiot/7 Mile, which has the theme of “Improve, Don’t Move; Keep the 48205 Alive!”

Their mural will also be featured in the Murals in Islandview 2023 festival, which includes another Academy alum, Lindy Shrewbridge (MFA Painting 2021). Multiple events including a Meet the Artists Happy Hour at Spot Lite will take place from September 26-30, 2023 during Detroit Month of Design.

The City of Detroit’s City Walls program was launched in the summer of 2017 to enhance public space by focusing on city walls, an essential and widely available urban element. The program highlights the values and identity of communities where the murals or other works are created, empowers local artists, and provides a positive cost benefit to the public via art versus the cost of blight remediation.
