Recent Graduate Olivia Guterson Opens Solo Exhibition at Louis Buhl & Co. in Detroit

Recent Cranbrook Academy of Art graduate Olivia Guterson (MFA Painting 2024) opens a new solo exhibition at Louis Buhl & Co. gallery in Detroit on Saturday, July 27, 2024. In the Wild Beyond is Guterson’s first solo exhibition with the gallery since announcing representation in 2023.
The exhibition features large and small paintings adorned with bones, shells, beads, sand, and rocks. Guterson explores themes of integration and separation, placement and displacement, and the perpetual motion of migration.
“I am thinking about brokenness, refusal, and fugitivity. And because I do not yet feel at home in my body and I am not yet fluent in the mother tongue of my spirit, I struggle to articulate that for which there is no language.”
Olivia Guterson: In the Wild Beyond will be on view from Saturday, July 27 – Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
