ArtDaily recently featured sculptor and curator Andrew John Cecil (MFA Sculpture 1984) in its coverage of Stories Retold: New American Perspectives, presented by Gerald Peters Contemporary. The group exhibition brings together seven contemporary artists who explore themes of American history and everyday life through various artistic lenses.
Cecil has dedicated over 40 years to both visual art and cultural heritage. Raised in Kalispell, Montana, his work is deeply influenced by the American West, reflecting on its landscape, industry, and traditions. His sculptures depict tools, trucks, and agricultural relics, examining shifting relationships between people, land, and resources.
Alongside his artistic practice, Cecil has contributed to museum and gallery spaces, facilitating dialogue between contemporary art and cultural history. His work has been exhibited regionally, nationally, and internationally, including at Japan’s Koumi Machi Kougen Museum of Art.
