Cranbrook Academy of Art alum Jonathan Muecke (MFA 3D Design 2010) is the subject of a recent PIN–UP magazine feature, highlighting his uniquely sculptural approach to design and his debut collection for Knoll.

Muecke creates minimalist objects that blur the line between furniture and sculpture. Working with materials like carbon fiber, aluminum, and wood, he focuses on the elemental qualities of structure, weight, and form.

His recent Muecke Wood Collection for Knoll—comprising a table, side chair, and armchair—is made from stacked oak dowels with exposed joinery. It reflects his ongoing interest in structure-driven design and marks his first collaboration with a major manufacturer.

PIN–UP explores Muecke’s hands-on, experimental process, emphasizing his refusal to separate design from material research. His work has been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, Volume Gallery, and Maniera in Brussels, among others.
