Sara Nickelson Wins Envision: The Michigan Artist Initiative 2025 Award

Recent Academy alumna Sara Nickelson (MFA Painting 2024) is the recipient of the 2025 Envision: Michigan Artist Initiative Award. Three finalists were selected to participate in an exhibition, and the winner was announced at the opening on June 26, 2025. Among the three finalists, two were Academy alumnae, Sara Nickelson and Katie Mongoven (MFA Fiber 2024).
In the award announcement at the exhibition’s opening reception, the jury noted: “Sara Nickleson’s ambitious paintings boldly invite us to explore our relationship with the unknown. At a time when the world is deeply divided, when diverse perspectives and experiences are being weaponized and pitting people against each other, Nickleson’s paintings meticulously build another world – one mark, one brush stroke at a time.”
Envision: The Michigan Artist Initiative 2025, featuring Michigan artists Sara Nickleson, Conor Fagan, and Katie Mongoven, is on view at Stamps Gallery through August 2.
