Taylor Childs (MFA Fiber 2024) was recently featured on WDET’s podcast CONTAINER on The Metro, a series highlighting Detroit’s creative voices across fashion, art, food, and music.
According to host Tia Graham, “The limit seemingly doesn’t exist for Taylor and what she can create.”
A Detroit-based designer and artist, Childs centers sustainability, community, and storytelling in her practice. Her work has been recognized widely, including being named a 2025 Kresge Gilda Snowden Emerging Artist and featured in both Detroit Month of Design and Michigan Fashion Week.
In her conversation with WDET, Childs reflects on the influence of her family, especially her grandmother, on the practice of creating something out of nothing. She also describes how experiences at the College for Creative Studies and Cranbrook Academy of Art shaped her artistic journey, grounding her in Detroit’s creative ecosystem while positioning her work within larger global conversations.
