Cranbrook alumnus Bruce Morozko (MFA Ceramics 1977) is showing Patterns That Connect: Relief Tile Montages and Sculpture at Union Art Gallery in the Union Arts Center in Union, New Jersey. His solo exhibition, on view through December 4, 2026, was recently covered by TAPinto Union.

Morozko’s relief works feature patterns, symbols, and whimsical characters coming together across the tile montages, including a 45-tile grid, alongside terracotta sculpture. Ceramics and sculpture are central to Morozko’s practice, but he also had a long career in set and prop building.

In the early 1980s, he joined the Muppet Photo Studio staff, where he built props and sets with photographer John E. Barrett for projects including Miss Piggy’s Guide to Life, The Miss Piggy Calendar 1982, and Muppet Magazine. He later built miniature sets and props for Scholastic’s I Spy books and computer games, and he is credited as a set builder and model maker on Scholastic I Spy titles released between 1999 and 2006, working alongside the franchise’s creators, photographer Walter Wick and author Jean Marzollo.

Morozko earned a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 1974 before earning his MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art. He received a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in 1979, and his early work was reviewed in American Craft in 1980. He has exhibited at the Morris Museum, the Mint Museum of Craft and Design, Cranbrook Art Museum, and his 2003 solo exhibition at John Elder Gallery in New York was reviewed in the New York Times. He also holds a New Jersey State Council on the Arts fellowship.

A longtime educator, Morozko taught ceramics and three-dimensional illustration at Parsons School of Design from 1980 to 1999. His later teaching included appointments at Kingsborough Community College, William Paterson University, and New Jersey City University, and he taught ceramics and sculpture full-time at Ridge High School from 2006 to 2021.
