Cranbrook Academy of Art alumnus and Detroit-based artist James Benjamin Franklin’s (MFA Painting 2017) new solo exhibition is currently on view at Library Street Collective.

Skipping Stones presents a new series of Franklin’s large-scale paintings with his signature organically shaped supports and layered textures. More traditional support shapes, still hand-built, including squares and tondos are also included. Franklin is also drawn to the handmade in his selection of textures used to create the surface of the paintings, often knit blankets and rugs.

Skipping Stones is on view at Library Street Collective through October 16, 2024.
