Former Academy Director Gerhardt Knodel Opens Exhibition at Wasserman Projects
Former Director of Cranbrook Academy of Art and Head of Fiber, Gerhardt Knodel is opening a new solo exhibition of new and recent work with Wasserman Projects in Detroit, Michigan. Imagined Futures invites viewers to explore Knodels’ immersive and magical world through a journey of eight characters in marionette form. These characters escape the routines of their existence, accompanied by embodied ancestors spiriting their way.
Imagined Futures will be on view from February 1, 2025, through April 26, 2025. An opening reception will be held Feb1 from 5 to 8pm.
Knodel led the Fiber program at Cranbrook Academy of Art for 25 years and was Director of the Academy from 1995 to 2007. He is a recipient of many prestigious grants and honors including a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, an Honorary Doctorate Degree from the Maryland Institute of Art, and the Michigan Governor’s Arts Award for outstanding achievement in the visual arts. His work can be found in numerous institutional collections including the Smithsonian Art Museum, Rhode Island Design Museum, Minneapolis Institute of Art, and Cranbrook Art Museum.
