Painting Alumnus Douglas Pendleton Named 2025 Door House Artist-in-Residence

Detroit-based painter and Academy alumnus Douglas Pendleton (MFA Painting 2022) has been selected as the 2025 Dome House Al and Mickey Quinlan Artist-in-Residence at the Miller Art Museum in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. He will be in residence from August 3 through September 28, 2025, as part of the museum’s celebrated summer program designed to support early- to mid-career visual artists in the Midwest.
Pendleton was chosen from a competitive pool of 40 applicants by the museum’s Artist Selection Committee. During his residency, he will receive a stipend, housing, and studio space at the unique 5,073-square-foot Dome House on Door County’s Lake Michigan shoreline.
Known for blending historical painting traditions with contemporary imagery and cultural critique, Pendleton plans to use his time in Door County to immerse himself in the landscape and explore en plein air painting. His residency will culminate in public programming and a presentation of new work in late September.
