Sandra Osip's “Florescence” On View at Wayne State University’s Elaine L. Jacob Gallery

November 12th, 2025

Detroit-based sculptor and Cranbrook Academy of Art alumna Sandra Osip’s (MFA Metalsmithing 1985) solo exhibition, Florescence, is on view at Wayne State University’s Elaine L. Jacob Gallery through December 19, 2025.

The exhibition explores cycles of growth, decay, and renewal through surreal, nature-inspired sculptures that reflect on humanity’s relationship with the environment. Drawing on her signature use of reimagined materials, Osip transforms organic forms into powerful meditations on resilience and transformation.

A native Detroiter, Osip earned her BS from Wayne State University before receiving her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. She moved to New York City in 1990, where she had work exhibited in Tiffany Windows, on 5th Avenue and 57th Street, and received a prestigious New York Foundation of Arts award. She returned to Detroit in 2019, where she continues to create from her studio at Russell Industrial Center.

Her work has been included in exhibitions at the Hill Gallery in Birmingham, Michigan, Wasserman Project, Detroit, Michigan and Carl Hammer Gallery, Chicago, Illinois; and it can be found in many permanent art collections, including the Detroit Institute of Art, Robert and Karen Duncan, Ray-O-Vac, Cranbrook Art Museum, and 1st National Bank of Chicago.
