Studio 23 The Arts Center is presenting Memes of African Postmodernism, an exhibition by mixed-media artist Lark Allen III (MFA Print Media 2014). His upbringing in both rural and urban America influences his work. He creates paintings, prints, often layering and repurposing materials.
The exhibition examines identity within the African Diaspora through African-inspired artifacts. Many of the masks and objects are wearable, reflecting traditional cultural forms. He previously completed degrees at Georgia Perimeter College and Clark Atlanta University.
Allen is currently an adjunct art instructor at Saginaw Valley State University and Delta College.
