Martha Mysko Opens Solo "Retail Therapy" at Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit

April 20th, 2026
Martha Mysko’s (MFA Painting 2011) new solo exhibition, Retail Therapy, opens to the public at Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (MOCAD) this Saturday, April 25, bringing together new work alongside a reimagined presentation of Vanity Room—an immersive installation that blurs the boundaries between painting, sculpture, and lived space.

Mysko expands a “painterly sensibility” beyond the canvas, transforming thrifted furniture, textiles, and familiar interiors into layered environments that are at once seductive and unsettling. Drawing on the visual language of malls, sitcom sets, and suburban life, the exhibition probes what lies beneath the surface of comfort, taste, and desire.

Tickets are still available for MOCAD’s Reopening Preview + Party on Friday, April 24, which includes the launch of their Spring Exhibitions.
