Academy studios are quiet spaces for reflection and active spaces for students to engage their peers in an open and honest exchange of ideas. They are spaces for figuring out next steps, making a mess, and showing one’s work.
Studio space, which students have access to 24/7, is balanced with an individual program’s shared spaces: production facilities, critique rooms, social areas, and kitchens. Programs are located across different buildings and floors, but each cohort’s studios are in close proximity. All studios have natural lighting, even those on our lower levels.
The peer-to-peer community at Cranbrook is evident everywhere: around the kitchen table for a meal and conversation, working side-by-side in the shop, or gathered together in critique. Solo work and shared time move in their own rhythm, shaping life at the Academy.
