Join us on Sunday, April 28, 2019, from 1-5pm, for our annual OPEN(STUDIOS) event. Visitors can tour the Academy of Art’s private studio spaces, meet with emerging artists and designers from the Academy’s 11 departments and purchase student work. This is the only time of the year when the public is invited inside the private Academy studio spaces!

OPEN(STUDIOS) is a FREE event!
Register through Eventbrite and also receive complimentary admission to the following Cranbrook attractions:

Cranbrook Art Museum: Tour the 2019 Graduate Degree Exhibition of Cranbrook Academy of Art, featuring the work of 65 graduating Academy students. Museum educators will also host a Spring Family Day with kid-friendly tours and hands-on art projects from 11am–2pm.

Cranbrook Institute of Science: Discover the wonder of the natural world and develop a better understanding of the ways in which science impacts our lives each day (paid admission required for exploreLab, Doom of the Dinosaurs, and the Acheson Planetarium).

Saarinen House: This is the opening day of the historic former home of Eliel and Loja Saarinen, and this year features the temporary exhibition Studio Loja Saarinen: The Art and Architecture of Weaving, 1928-1942, which brings together rarely seen handwoven rugs and textiles produced at Cranbrook under the direction of Loja Saarinen.

Cranbrook House: Enjoy an open house at the Arts and Crafts-style masterpiece designed by Albert Kahn for the founders of Cranbrook, George Gough Booth and Ellen Scripps Booth.

Sonified Cranbrook: Visit the temporary installation by Carla Diana, Designer-in-Residence and Head of the new 4D Design department at Cranbrook Academy of Art and Skooby Laposky, a composer, producer and DJ who crafts sound and music for motion, narratives, objects, and events. Pick up a map at check-in for the various locations and performance times.

This is the perfect day to explore Cranbrook! Check in at the main event table located outside of Cranbrook Art Museum or at any of the participating campus venues for information and maps. Visitors can park at any of the venues on campus and shuttles will also be running from the Kingswood and 550 Lone Pine Road parking lots. The event will be held rain or shine.
