Randy Bolton to Retire from Cranbrook Academy of Art

Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Oct. 9, 2015 – Cranbrook Academy of Art announced today that Randy Bolton, Artist-in-Residence and Head of the Print Media Department, will retire at the end of the 2015- 2016 academic year.

After spending nearly 30 years as an educator, Bolton will return to a full-time studio practice near his home in Texas.

Bolton’s career at Cranbrook began in 2002, when he was selected as Artist-in-Residence and Head of the Print Media Department, based on his extensive teaching experience and background in print art. As a practicing print artist, his work has been widely exhibited in hundreds of solo and group shows throughout the United States, Europe and Asia.

During his tenure at the Academy, he has mentored many talented students who have all been fortunate enough to benefit from his regular critique and perspective.

“Our Artists-in-Residence are a part of the rich fabric of our institution, living and working here on campus alongside our students. And while change can be challenging, it a natural course for all dynamic programs,” said Christopher Scoates, Maxine and Stuart Frankel Director of Cranbrook Academy of Art and Art Museum. “Randy’s commitment to his students over the years has been unflagging, and he has opened their eyes to new techniques and experiences not only in the studio, but through many visiting artists and departmental trips. Through his efforts, Randy gave students a full experience of Cranbrook and the world at large. His contributions will remain an important chapter in the history of the Academy.”

The Academy will now begin an international search for a replacement
