Julian J. Jones and Meredith Morrison Awarded PLAYGROUND Detroit 2022 Emerging Artist Fellowships

March 3rd, 2022

Julian J. Jones (Photography ’22) and Meredith Morrison (Fiber ’21) are among the 2022 PLAYGROUND Detroit Emerging Artist Fellows. 10 Artist Fellows were chosen for the inaugural 2021-22 Emerging Artists Fellowship, a multi-year juried program.

Each of the Detroit artists will receive $2,000 awards each to develop their individual practices and create new bodies of artwork accompanied by mentorship-based programming. Each artist will have a corresponding exhibition, performance installation or site-specific installation. Solo exhibition dates are to be announced by PLAYGROUND Detroit.

The PLAYGROUND Detroit Emerging Artist Fellowship is supported by The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation as a Knight Arts Challenge Detroit 2019 winning project.

Jones’ works bridge drawing, sculpture, and textile to express his perspectives around black identity and memorialize black culture.
