Cody Norman Opens New Solo Exhibition "glam.glom.gloom" at Upper Iowa University
Upper Iowa University in Fayette, IA recently opened Cody Norman’s (MFA 3D Design 2020) new solo exhibition, glam.glom.gloom, on February 21, 2023. Norman, a Cranbrook Academy of Art 3D Design alumnus, will showcase a collection of his latest work, which represents a mixture of technical and conceptual approaches to transforming recycled plastic into functional sculptures and designed objects. Norman currently lives and works in Chicago, IL, and is represented locally by IM Weiss Gallery.
Norman’s work explores the possibilities of transforming discarded materials into aesthetically compelling and socially relevant pieces. His practice combines elements of design, sculpture, and installation, resulting in artworks that blur the boundaries between form and function. Recently, his practice has focused on robotic 3D printing and handheld plastic extrusion using post-consumer plastic. Norman’s process blurs the lines between digital and hand craft.
Norman has exhibited his work in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States, including at NEXT:SPACE Detroit, M Contemporary Gallery, the Chicago Botanic Garden, and the Muskegon Museum of Art. His talent has been recognized with numerous awards, including the prestigious Cranbrook Academy of Art Merit Scholarship.
An artist talk and reception will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023, 12-2pm, local time. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet Norman and learn more about his creative process. During the event, he will discuss the inspiration behind his work and answer questions from attendees.
glam.glom.gloom will be on view from February 21, 2023, to March 31, 2023, at the Upper Iowa University Art Gallery, open to the public Monday through Friday from 8am to 7pm.
