Detroit-based artist Tiff Massey (MFA Metalsmithing 2011) was recently featured in Galerie Magazine’s Creative Mind series. Massey’s most ambitious solo museum exhibition to date, the title, 7 Mile + Livernois, refers to the area where she grew up and the site of a new community art space she’s currently building.

The exhibition will present newly commissioned works by Massey along with works by artists who have inspired her, from the Institute’s permanent collection. These artists include Louise Nevelson and Donald Judd, among others. Of this juxtaposition, Massey told Galerie, “I’m from 7 Mile, and here I am with full autonomy. At the end of the day, it’s an art battle. I’m going to show you from my perspective what is good.”

7 Mile + Livernois opens on Saturday, May 5, 2024, and will be on view through May 11, 2025. A free public opening (advance registration required) will be held on Friday, May 4, 2024 from 7 to 10pm featuring a performance by Rimarkable.
