Karen Lee Featured in Dezeen's Portland Installment of North American Design Series

May 23rd, 2024

Cranbrook Academy of Art 3D Design alumna Karen Lee was featured in Dezeen’s Portland installment of their North American Design 2024 series. Portland has a strong maker and craft culture and is also where large sportswear brands such as Nike and Columbia were founded. Lee worked for Nike shortly after receiving her MFA from Cranbrook. She is currently a Senior Materials Designer at Arc’teryx Equipment and an Adjunct Professor of Product Design at the University of Oregon.

“My practice engages with the language of vessels and communal systems, in a bid to redefine their roles in an ever-changing domestic landscape,” Lee told Dezeen.

Lee received the Cranbrook Art Museum Purchase Award, in which the museum’s committee selects a work from the Graduate Degree Exhibition each year to be acquired for the museum’s permanent collection. Her experimental table design, Macaroni for Every Being, a collaboration with a fellow Cranbrook student was longlisted for a Dezeen 2020 Design Award in the Furniture Design category.
