Philadelphia-based artist Qualeasha Wood (MFA Photography 2021) was recently named to Cultured magazine’s prestigious 2024 Young Artists List. This annual list highlights 30 exceptional emerging artists (35 or under) across the United States, celebrating their unique voices and innovative contributions to contemporary art.

Numerous individuals and institutions have collected Wood’s work, including the Met, the Studio Museum in Harlem, and Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz’s Dean Collection.

Earlier this year, Wood partnered with OpenAI to create “a weird cybernetic future version of myself that I named Q2, who embarks on this Matrix-themed journey.”

Her signature hand-embellished jacquard tapestries combine religious and Internet iconography, selfies, and jewels to explore in the artist’s words, “Black American Femme ontology.”

Wood will open a new public art project at the Philadelphia International Airport in May 2025.
