Painting Alumna Rachel Pontious Featured in Artist Spotlight in SEEN Magazine
SEEN Magazine recently featured Cranbrook Academy of Art alumna Rachel Pontious (MFA Painting 2017) in its Artist Spotlight. Pontious, based in Detroit since graduating from Cranbrook, details her artistic journey from high school to the present including background into how she made the decision to ultimately pursue art professionally.
While pursuing her studio practice, she is also an instructor at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI, and a co-founder of RF Curatorial, a two-person curatorial team formed with fellow alum Finn Schult (MFA Photography 2019).
“I had never heard of Cranbrook until I met a group of friends who were Cranbrook grads, and all had incredible and sweet things to say. Then, later I find out that two of my friends from Colorado ended up getting married after meeting at Cranbrook, which is when I told myself that there’s a reason this school keeps appearing, and I really gotta trust this.” – Rachel Pontious to SEEN on how she came to attend Cranbrook Academy of Art.
In 2022, Pontious was featured in group exhibitions, Homebody at Cranbrook Art Museum and Salon Redux at David Klein Gallery.
