Nancy Skolos, Tom Wedell's Monograph on Fast Company's Summer Design Reading List

July 10th, 2023

Internationally-renowned designers and Cranbrook couple Nancy Skolos (BFA Design 1977) and Tom Wedell’s (MFA Photography 1976) first monograph was recently featured in Fast Company’s list of design books to read this summer. Jarrett Fuller calls their designs “some of the most singular and original graphic design work of the last 50 years.”

Skolos and Wedell combine her typography and his photographs in their collaborative works which can be explored in detail in the monograph, Overlap/Dissolve. The book also features an intimate conversation that offers insight into their path to collaboration, process, the influence of technology, and the joys of teaching. The introductory essay is written by Cranbrook Art Museum Director and Academy alum, Andrew Satake Blauvelt (MFA Design 1988).

Skolos and Wedell have run their own studio since the 1980s and both teach at Rhode Island School of Art and Design (RISD). They are 2017 AIGA Medalists.
